I propose that the IHPVA begin recording 100 mile records. This distance is very popular with general cyclists of all ages and abilities. It is a distance ridden often in organized events in the US and England. As of now, the IHPVA has not recorded 100 mile records. At the Ford-Michigan Speed Challenge, I recorded what I believe to be valid world records for the Men's and Women's 100 mile. These were set by Hans Wessels and Ellen van Vugt en route to new Six-Hour world records, which were ratified by the IHPVA.
The 100 mile event was an announced event at the competition. Some competitors rode only 100 miles. The track was very close to 5 miles around, so their time upon completing Lap 20 was approximately their 100 mile time. I used two mathematicl methods based on their overall average speed and their last lap speed to get a better estimation of their actual time to complete the 100 miles.
What are the IHPVA Board members and others opinion on honoring these 100 mile records, and the creation of a new records category for the 100-mile? |

Following an event at Dektra this summer, where new six-hour records were set, I now recompute the BEST 100-MILE (CENTURY) TIME UNOFFICIAL "WORLD RECORD" as shown below
MEN'S 100-MILE: 2 hours 11 minutes, 11 seconds, Axel Fahlau, SpeedHawk II streamlined bicycle, Dudenhofen, Germany, 2011. Avg Speed: 73.6 kph, 45.73 mph
WOMEN'S 100-MILE: 2 hours, 42 minutes, 45 seconds, Ellen van Vugt, SpeedHawk II streamlined bicycle, Dudenhofen, Germany, 2011. Avg Speed: 59.329 kph, 36.865 mph
