Construction Materials

Wing

 

Ribs

6mm white foam, end ribs of each section 12mm blue foam. 0.5 mm hardwood veneer rib capstrips from TE to spar glued with PVA, compression brace of 12 x 6 mm balsa on both sides of each 3rd rib.
   

Leading Edge

 
   

Main Spar

Carbon-blue foam composite, 28 layers of carbon on top for compression strength, 18 layers on bottom for tension strength Epoxy glues in all spar constructions..
   

Trailing Edge

Blue foam covered in some carbon fibre sheeting
   

Covering

Front-3mm blue styrofoam, Bottom rear- 1 micron Astroll Clear mylar.Rear top- 16 mm white styrofoam.
   

Fuselage

 

Shell

Fibreglass (2 layers of 4 oz) for the cockpit tub shell.

Boom

Prepreg (vinyl ester resin) carbon fibre cylinder made on a mandril, heated in an oven at 150 degrees for 1 1/2 hrs and pressed off with about 2 tonnes pressure.
   

Clear section

Clear Mylar for the windscreen with Profilm to cover the rear open surfaces.
   

Tail

 

Radio Control

  5 cell (to allow for voltage drop), 1700mah battery, Tartan 12 kg-cm torque, 1/4 scale sized servos for surface control, 1 servo for each aileron, 1 for elevator and 2 for rudder. Transmitter JR MC 16.

Propeller

The propeller is hollow, balsa ribbed and balsa skinned, covered in 3/4 glass cloth. The 2 propeller halves are attached to a chrome- molybdenium tube.
