Subject: Loose S&S Coupler I didn't really want to
believe my Greenspeed owner's manual, which states that
the S&S coupler should be tightend DAILY. Today mine
loosened enough that I felt a slight rocking movement in
the handlebars with each pedal stroke. I read previously
someone else had the same problem. I was able to get home
the last couple of miles by just hand tightening the
coupler. I now carry the tool with me.

Subject: [trikes] New S&S Coupling Spanner (wrench)
List-Id: Recumbent Human-Powered Trikes <trikes.ihpva.org>
We have had a few reports of some customers not being
able to get the S&S couplings on their trikes tight
enough with the standard 6" S&S coupling spanner.
So S&S have now produced a longer spanner with a 15mm
spanner on the other to fit the Sachs 3x7 axle nuts and
the pedals.
It's 185mm (11") long from tip to tip, and weighs
144g.
If any Greenspeed owners with an S&S coupled trike,
would like one, please just email me quoting
your frame number, name, and address, and I'll mail one
out at no charge.

I've invested heavily in S&S couplings this year!!!
We've bought both an S&S equipped Greenspeed tandem
trike and a Greenspeed GTO solo trike. Put simply the
couplings just work...
We collected the tandem trike in York (it was delivered
to be used at a show there). It is a 5 hour train journey
home. We simply took the tandem into 2 sections and put
it on the train. No problem.
We don't have many miles on the S&S equipped machines
yet so I can't comment on how they behave over time but
I'm completely taken with being able to dismantle trikes
for shipping. It isn't a quick job but it can be done. My
best times for the GTO are 35 minutes to dismantle and
pack it, 45 minutes to reassemble and get on the road.
I'm sure I could take 5, maybe 10 minutes of that with a
better tool for undoing the GTO seat bolts - it needs a
low stack height allen socket wrench...
The nice thing about the S&S coupling on the GTO is
that it doesn't need any careful by-eye alignment...
Either the parts of the frame are correctly aligned or
they are a click of the coupling out, what 20 degrees or
so off... Even I can spot such an error immediately...
