Take a look at the later (1975?-1985?) Schwinn "Town
& Country" adult trikes. They had a
differential driven from a modified Shimano three-speed
coaster-brake hub. The actual differential housing
was about 5" in diameter- appropriate size for human
power.
What was neat about this unit is that the forward frame
was a conventional bike frame. It would be pretty
easy to bolt the rear axle/differential/transmission unit
to an upright bike (in fact, I think Schwinn made this
assembly available seperately). By extension, it would be
*somewhat* easy to put together a RWD delta trike with
one of these units.
IIRC, the differentials were made by Ret-Bar Industries.
The last I heard of them, they were in Utah in 1991.
They disappeared soon after that.
